i dont know your medical history or anything, but i personally have fibromyalgia, which causes all kinds of muscle aches,in the back ,shoulders, neck, everywhere. it makes you feel like you have the flu all the time and you feel very tired, almost too tired to do anything. it is usually very difficult to get diagnosed. doctors usually rely on your medical history , like how long you have been hurting and make sure you are hurting on both sides of the body. there are also tender points (almost all of the specific tenderpoints were present when i saw the doc,and thats why it didn't take long for me to be diagnosed) at specific areas on your body that are veeeery tender just to the touch(kinda feels like there is a bruise there, without there being one).there are several tender points that tend cluster around the back and neck, and also at the elbow and knees. but they are always in pairs, meaning if you have one on one side of your body it will present itself at the exact same spot on the other side. there are a number of other problems that you experience with fibromyalgia also, such as lack of QUALITY sleep, meaning you could sleep all night, but there is something in your brain that is telling your body that you are still awake(this is called eeg anomaly),this leaves you feeling like you have been ran over by a truck the next morning, even if you have had plenty of sleep. too many problems to list that comes along with this disorder, but i personally have a lot of pain right below my ribs ,my lower and upper back(it differs from day to day)and in my hips. there have been many people diagnosed with this disorder that are so incapacitated by the pain they draw disability because they can not work. if two or more of these symptoms sound familiar , i would suggest letting your doctor or a rheumatologist see if they think it is possible you have this condition. if absolutely none of this sounds familiar i guess i just wasted alot of your time!! good luck !!

Inflamation and irritation of muscles and nerv endings cause the pain signals. You didn't say what you did to cause this. If you had no physical activity to introduce this soreness you should get to a doctor to find out what is going on.

it could be your mattress, but if it is sore on either your left or right side of your back, it could be a kidney infection, I get those alot,,,, does it hurt when you pee?
that is another symptom.
I have been achey too,,,,,,,,,, I need to do some yoga tonight.

Maybe it is your mattress that you sleep on at night or maybe you need a pair of shoes that support your posture.
