No. I lived in NOLA at one time. I know what it was like. The mayor and the governor failed at their jobs and both should have been jailed. Just 4 years earlier an evacuation plan was put into motion. The city buses and school buses were to be used to evacuate all those who did not have transportation. There was enough time and resourses to move all the people out 4 times over, but Ray Naggan sat on his chocolate butt too long and the governor was too scared of him to tell him to move. They waited too late. After the storm came, all the transportation was destroyed. There was no way to get in to help the people. Thats ""WHY"" the plan was enacted into law 4 years earlier. Because you can prevent all the suffering if you follow the plan. Its hard to help after everything is under water. Naggan should be executed in public and Blanco should spend time in jail. This whole fiasco belongs to mainly Ray Naggan. And the stupid people elected the fool again. You can not help the idiots in New Orleans.

Oh, I am certain that class and race were major factors here. At first I didn't think so, but in the weeks following this disaster, I came across *countless* people in person and on the internet who spewed all kinds of racist and classist crap about the people who had temporarily been relocated to their hometowns.
If I were black, I probably would not have heard these things. But since I am white, I guess white racists feel a little more comfortable revealing their idiocy to me.
People who claim that racism doesn't play a big role today are either very sheltered or in denial. It is everywhere, and it drives me absolutely nuts--especially when white people are racist, as they reflect poorly on me.

Racism and class issues played a major part in the Katrina
incident, anyone that denies this is either evil or just plain
ignorant. The media should be held responsible for all the
racist views that led to the delay of aid to the people of the
Katrina incident. Brown himself stated that they feared going
in to help the people. More coverage was made on looting than
the condition of the people after the storm. The media was able
to get in and take pictures of people going through the Wal-Mart
stores, yet couldn't cover the devestation of the people in need.
After a flood, supplies are needed, I would suggest that no
matter what race or class you may be, if you needed clean
water, supplies, food for your family, you would get it to save
the life of yourself and your love ones. The media also concocted
stories without substance. I personally was informed by several
of the military rescue team who stated that no one was
murdered in the Dome and no one was raped. Yet the media
exploited the area as crime filled arena. Fear of poor and
minorities led by government officials with underlying discriminating mentality surfaced at the time of need for our
fellow less fortunate Americans. If anything good came from
this whole ordeal, it is to remind us that the evil of hate and
disregard for our fellow man exist throughout our society
despite all of the religious convictions and teachings that we
hippocritically proclaim.

I highly doubt it. NOT saving poor uneducated people has cost millions if not billions. They are all living off of the system now because they feel they are owed. If you left the same amount of surburban folks stranded its far more likely that 2 years later they would already be back on their feet not depending on the government to pay their bills for them. Like it or not it was nothing to do with race. I know everyone is looking for the conspiracy theory but its just not there. They messed up but it was incompetence not racism.

i honestly think this questions was not even necessary! why? its not a matter of (to me) if it was racist or not! I'll just state that it was wrong to send help so late after so many people were stranded, starved, died, and everything else.! However...there were many situations that was a direct effect of the hurrican b/c so many people were without (people breaking into stores taking items which was shown as theft then again in a city with no electricity who needs a plasma tv)...so then all the stereotypes came and thats wrong! BUT regardless of what happened...many people came together all from different backgrounds and so forth to help many different people because they were in need!! even if it wasn't great from our own government! :)

No, it was once again bureacracy in the way of progress. The fabulous governor of Louisiana wanted to show how powerful she was but didn't have the gonads to call for federal resources and then wanted to blame the feds for not coming, even though THEY called HER and asked her if she needed help and she said NO. People are people, most people in this country didn't see color or class first, they just saw people in need.

Answer Man is correct. The mayor of New Orleans is a moron and should be charged with murder. Naturally, he was re-elected. Remember when Marion Berry was re-elected mayor of D.C. after being busted smoking crack?
Blacks stand behind Blacks no matter if they're idiots or not. Look at O.J. Simpson. He doesn't even LIKE the Black race but they were happy he was acquitted.
We're all walking around this pink elephant in the living room, wanting to be PC when idiots should be thrown out of office and not kept in because it would be racist to do otherwise. Let a white say "I want my Vanilla City back' and see what happens. I'm SICK of the double standard. That's why whites are asking so many questions about blacks. The race card is totally played out.

We're lucky if anywhere gets aid. Just be happy they got any at all. Do you think they'd make any more effort if Cletus' white-power trailer farm got knocked out by a tornado? Probably not.

Come on! Everyone knows that when blacks act irresponsibly,
white racism is to blame.
Forget the inept city leaders, the looting, rapes, murders, and shooting at rescue workers.
Houston is so happy they took in all the displaced people with the huge spike in crime and burden to the taxpayers, that they want them out. White racism again!

Yeah it was, They saw it as an easy way to get rid of a lot of black people. You see how fast it took them to get to Florida.
