A person who is schizophrenic has a mental illness that makes it difficult for them to make sense of the world in the way other people do.

Some schizophrenic people hear voices that aren't real, but don't always know whether or not they're real. When a person hears things or sees things that seem real to them, but nobody else can hear or see them, it's called a "hallucination". (Except if it happens when you're asleep -- that's a dream or a nightmare, and it's perfectly normal.)

Some kind of schizophrenic people don't necessarily have hallucinations, but they believe in patterns and explanations that don't make sense to other people. For example, they might think that their thoughts are being controlled by aliens, or they might believe that the TV is talking directly to them.

For a schizophrenic person, it can feel very scary or frustrating when the world doesn't make sense, or it makes sense in a way that nobody else sees or agrees with. It's often hard for schizophrenic people to do well at school or work, or to trust people, or to have close friendships. A lot of schizophrenic people keep to themselves and become lonely or depressed or upset.

A schizophrenic is a person who sometimes can't tell the difference between what is real and what is fantasy. They hear voices. They may see things that are not really there. They have moments when they think they know all about everything--even more than their doctors.

schizophrenia means "split mind" it is a disorder of the brain that disturbs or messes up the person's thoughts and affects the way things seem to them. Also affects emotional and social processes. Some are born with it and some people develop it later in life. There are four main types of and is mostly caused by high levels of the chemical in the brain called dopamine. One of the main problems people with this disorder have is they take medication and it starts to help them and soon they start to think that their is nothing wrong with them and they stop taking the medicine and it starts all over again. Because really no one wants to admit to themselves or to anyone else that they have a problem like this. They are also most of the time very very intelligent people.

It's a form of sickness of the mind that causes people to act foolishly and sometimes laugh for no reason at all. They sometimes believe in things and situations that aren't true...sort of like make believe, but to them it is real. They sometimes revert to being very childish and sometimes are mean. The doctors aren't certain as to all the reasons that cause this illness of the mind to occur but suspect that it has to do with an imbalance in one or more of the over 2000 chemicals secreted in the brain for proper functioning. Many of these chemical molecules are so complex that the doctors haven't figured out what they do yet.

People with schizophrenia hear voices inside their heads. They think they hear people who aren't really there. It can be a scary experience, both for the person hearing the voices and also for anybody else who happens to be around.

A person with schizophrenia is NOT crazy. He/she has an illness--not one that you can catch, but one that is serious and should be treated by a doctor.
