My accent gets in the way.
I also have allergies which prevents me from hearing even some English at times so I end up reading lips to compensate for it.
But I do love listening to the different Languages from around the world.
They are so beautiful, some are like Music, others some across like the sounds of Love, to me, Chinese, Vietnamese and Japaneses reminds me of when I lived in Hawaii when I was just a child, 3,000 miles from home.
And after I learned how to show respect, and to honor their ways, they welcomed me with open arms and I fell in love with the Orient.

same reason your english isn't that great for one...
second, language is learned when we are babies by imitating sounds that we hear. repeating these sounds develops our speech and how we speak. a lot of what our voice and diction sounds like comes from the tongue position in the mouth (it's why people have accents too). obviously, people who grow up speaking one language and not viet. or chinese did not grow up learning those "tones" that you speak of.

I was raised Polish and I find it amazing how most Americans have trouble pronouncing most of the words. The American pronounciationis very limited.

It is a stupid question. A better question would be, "Why can't Americans speak english well?"
(we don't speak good, feel good, or read good. We speak well, feel well and read well.)

Because we weren't born into the language and culture, so we have the base of English and work from that.

I know why! The americans are to self centered to even care about what's outside america. No america is not everything, no you do not have the best values, no i don't want to live there.
They can not conform to the surroundings. It's always ME ME ME.
