In psych 101 I learned that even one drink at the stage of pregnancy you are in can screw up the many things forming and growing in your child right now. A lot of people think drinking early on is safe, they think when they start showing is when it becomes a problem, the truth is most drinking damage comes from the early stages of pregnancy, that's not saying that it is ever safe to drink while you are preganant, because you're tampering with organs and things that are forming. Common sense will tell you this can't be safe. Also, there are women who have drank as little as 2 or 3 drinks and have had children born with FAS. I want you to take a look at children with fetal alcohol syndrom before you make a decision on if you are going to have a drink or not. HBO ran a great documentary on this. FAS children have some of the most difficult lives and their care givers most often find them almost impossible to deal with. Why risk it? It's nine months...or possibly the rest of you and your child's life.

No level of alcohol use has been proven to be safe during pregnancy. Even very small amounts of alcohol have the potential to cause birth defects and miscarriage. Because there is no solid answer as to how much alcohol would be okay during pregnancy, the best advice to follow is just to abstain from drinking. It is just nine months, and once you hold that healthy baby in your arms you will know it was worth it. If you are really having bad cravings try making yourself a frozen virgin daiquiri or something, maybe that will help!

Why take the risk? Is the craving really worth it? If you are asking, that means there is doubt in your mind about the ramifications of it. Since I truly doubt that anyone could securely determine there are no effects on a fetus, from even a small amount of alcohol, I would try and refrain.

I am sure the masses will disagree with me, but I have a very healthy 21 and 27 year old...they are both very smart, well adjusted and are physically fit and attractive...back in my day, the doc. would actually say it was FINE to have a couple (not a 6 pack) of beers or a drink or two...not ten...I was sooooo happy during my pregnancies, for once I didn't have to worry about my weight and I was at peace......I know my mother drank even more than that when she was expecting my sister and I and we are both fine...
You sound like me...when someone says you CAN"T have something you want it all the more!!!!lol...
All my freinds drank when they were pregnant, (alittle)...but the new buzz I know is none...I personally think a happy pregnant woman has happy kids...that is a tough question but I wish you well and would encourage you to talk it over with your doc...good luck to you...

If in doubt ask your doctor. Most of them will tell you that a beer or glass of wine once a month will help with your stress levels (and the baby's), plus it helps in the production of milk. Don't know how much that means to you since you are so early in your pregnancy. Remember though that if you are not much of a drinker, drinking will affect you more strongly than most. I would say that a glass of wine or a beer would not hurt you. But...do not go out and have 3 or 4 mixed drinks...your body is not used to it anyway.

i wouldnt reccomend drinking while you are pregnant..but each country has different beliefs..drinking while pregnant is the most cause of birthdefects..my doctor told me drinking is worse then doing heroin during pregnancy..but none of that should be done.! like in canada they say for pregnant woman to smoke pot during there first tri-mester to help with morning sickness! but it all depends on your doctor and what country you live in..if your having cravings for alcohol i think you must drink a decent amount for you to crave it! just try to hold back those cravings b.c you have to remember theres a living baby there inside you that is relying on you to be healthy soo baby can be healthy!

I'm more concerned about you saying you have a horrible craving for it, then the question itself. CRAVING alcohol is a sign of alcoholism. Period. Telling people who are alcoholics that it's OK to have a drink occasionally while pregnant only turns out to be a disaster, because they tend to take that and run with it. Don't drink while you're pregnant. It's always better safe than sorry.

You know what?? Just deal with those cravings!! You are going to be a mother. That means putting yourself after the baby, by the way. It's not going to be all about you again for years, so get used to it!!
Sorry to seem harsh, but if you can't think of the baby instead of yourself, then perhaps you shouldn't have gotten pregnant. Be patient. You'll be able to indulge again after the baby's born, but hopefully not too much. You do want to be responsible, and you'll have plenty to do.
