Not real good. Best bet is a cool mist humidifier, and add a pint of hydrogen peroxide to the gallon tank. Run that at night while you sleep. It helps loosen things up so you can get rid of it, and also it disinfects the lungs from the outside, while your body works on the inside. Peroxide is something your body makes to fight disease, so it is not a foreign particle that is hard to cope with.

I'd suggest a sugar free cough syrup for a diabetic, I know Robitussin makes one, and I think Corcidin does too. Glycerin, aka Glycerol, is a sugar alcohol, and it is converted to glucose by the liver. If a diabetic takes medications with glycerine, or glycerol, then their blood sugar testing will show a rise in levels. I think it could become a dangerous situation for a type 1 diabetic, but may be ok for a type 2 diabetic if only taken once or twice...call your pharmacist, they will let you know the best option.

Glycerin is one of the most versatile and valuable chemical substances known to man. It possesses a unique combination of physical and chemical properties that are utilized in myriad products. Glycerin has over 1,500 known end uses, including many applications as an ingredient or processing aid in cosmetics, toiletries, personal care, drugs, and food products. In addition, glycerin is highly stable under typical storage conditions, compatible with many other chemical materials, virtually non-toxic and non-irritating in its varied uses, and has no known negative environmental effects.

Glycerine will coat her throat and delay healing. I'd go with a couple of drops of pure unadulterated lemon essential oil in warm water, and stevia for sweetening it.

All the best!

Uhm, isn't glycerine soap?

Do what the first guy said.

You can buy a Vicks humidifier that has special liquid that clears your nose and clears your throat made by Vicks that you put in it. It works really well. My Mom has one.
