you need to find the greates common factor of the numerator and denominator (top and bottom of the fraction) you cancel them and are left with a simplified fraction

you need to find the least common denominator to simplify fractions.
For example, to simplify 3/x + 5/2x, you need to find the least common denominator (2x) and make both fractions so they have it.
... in this case we would multiply top and bottom of the first fraction by 2: 6/2x + 5/2x ... then add the tops. 6 + 5 / 2x = 11/2x.

You need the use the greatest common factor on both the numerator and denominator.

just see what number is dividable in both fractions and the divide it.
Ex. 9/3 simplified 3 or 3/1
4/9 cannot be simplified because the 4 is dividable in 2, and the 9 is in three.

to simplify it you have to find a number that goes into both numbers.e.g. 3/9 can simplify to 1/3 because 3 goes into both and 5/25 simplifys to 1/5 as 5 divides into both numbers.
