realitive is acting stange in her marriage and motherly skills.doesnt want to be home,take care of her kids,clean,just plain be responsible and are mean when a realitive or spouse asks.Im told that she is in denial...what exactlly does that mean?I thought she was feeling guilty and didnt want anyone to know but my froiend say that it wasnt that but was denial

If someone is "in denial" it means that they know or should clearly suspect the truth, but are unable or unwilling to deal with it. An obvious example would be a wife who found lipstick on her husband's shirt, but shrugged it off.

A mother who doesn't want to take care of her kids has got something else going on. To me, it sounds a lot like a substance abuse problem or possibly chronic depression.
