Get a second opinion. Tierod,and ball joint "problems" are often a way shops use to get extra work out. For that reason, ball joints were taken off the NY state inspection list. 2004 is only 3 years old, it is not all that common to need that much work so soon.

I had a Pontiac Grand Am and had to replace the alternator 4 or 5 times, I would never buy another Pontiac anything.

I extremely have an un-modded 2004 Grand Prix GT. the different evening the line wasn't busy and in actuality sparkling. i desperate to gun it and take a inspect for myself what the right velocity of the vehicle replaced into. i replaced into in a position to hit approximately 107-109 while the engine flat coated and my velocity does not improve to any extent further. first off get a second garage to check it out and maybe even a third manitoba govement specks say that any play at all in front end parts is considered a fail on a safety but depends where ur from if it needs balls joint and tie rod get it fixed 4 your oun safety good luck

ask them if they used gm specs or there specs (aka ohh it has some playing in it) G.M states that up to 0039in play is save
which is allot of play if you ask me but that's what they say
as far as getting a new veh I wouldn't just yet things brake its just a part of owning a car a new one will brake too maybe not right a way but it will in time the way i see it cost you $800 get your $800 out of it
