I remember reading about this but it was a while ago so my knowledge is a little fuzzy. They are sometimes called the Yankee's cousin club b/c back in the day, 40 or 50 yrs ago one of the A's owners and one of the Yankee's owners were buddies and basically they only traded with each other with the Yank's getting the better parts of the deals. It was basically as if the A's were a farm system for the Yankees at the time making the Yankees a dominate team. So basically the clubs were intertwined like family and that's how they got the nickname. Thank god it's not like that anymore.

I think it was because back then, the Yankees were able to acquire talent from the A's while the A's were in Kansas City. Also, many players have played for both the Yankees and the A's.

when the A's were in Kansas City, the Yankees got several players from them in trades that became big stars with the Yankees. Roger Maris was obtained from the A's in a trade. I was like the A's were a Yankee farm team

IT WAS IN THE '50'S WHEN THE YANKEES & THE THEN KANSAS CITY A'S MADE MANY LOPSIDED TRADES IN FAVOR OF THE YANKEES. THE A'S WERE AS BAD AS TODAY'S ROYALS.
