Only if your total income exceeds the IRS minimum; the percentage would depend on which tax-bracket you fall into with your total income.

My father was killed in an accident when I was two, and Social Security made it possible for my mom to raise my sister and I. The benefits end when the child reaches age 16, because that is normally when the child finishes required education. The SSA benefits are to support him and help you, as the surviving parent, to see they reach a stage where they will be able to support themselves. Zeus had an excellent suggestionabout contcting the SSA to see if there are other benefits you may be able to apply for. I share his opinion of our new fearless leader.

Yes but it depends on their age, disabilities and the amount will change again based on their ages. For example if the spouse is 60 or older they could receive 100% of the spouses benefits.

No, There is no tax to be paid on survivor benefits for you or the children if that is all you are getting (its all figured in before they send your check). If you also work or have other income that is over a certain amount then yes, you may be taxed.
