I would certainly hope it would spark a rebellion. A military draft is nothing more than legalized slavery. Those with influence or money would get out of serving, especially in combat. The current crop of chicken hawks in DC is a good example of that. Most have avoided combat at a time when we had a draft Those who did not enlist were almost exclusively from the poor & lower middle class. A good example of this is during the filming of "Fahrenheit 911", only 1 member of the entire Congress had a son or daughter serving. If a draft were instituted at this time, women also would be required to register, because to do otherwise would be illegal sexual discrimination. I don't believe the country is ready for that.

Well, a military draft might well pass the Democratic-lead House and Senate right now. If the USA is truly involved in a global war on terror, as our president states, then he should have mobilized the country right after Sep 11, 2001. That mobilization would have included reinstating the draft.

I do think it would spark revolution and protest from all young men 18-25. Since there hasn't been a "blanket" draft since the end of the Vietnam War, young men would probably complain about the timing.

I don't believe there would be a "revolution" in the pure sense of the word....but I'll tell ya what; it would sure put an end to that nasty war in Iraq.

Those of us old enough to recall the Vietnam thing will know that what brought many to the streets were the young men (at that time only men were drafted) who finally took up the call to end that stinking, illegal war and hit the streets saying "hell no, I won't go"... It grew and grew and became so contentious that it ended up with the National Guard shooting and killing peaceful, demonstrating students at Kent State.

I am totally against the draft but you can bet that if this Middle East conflict last much longer or if it spreads into Iran - and Venezuela, it will be brought back. And, as usual, the rich will be able to buy their way out of it...or, like Georgie Bush, quickly join the National Guard to avoid going to war-or will flee to Canada and Mexico. But, it would sure bring things to a screeching halt in a hurry.....Just ask yourself; would you go if called????

I think everyone pretty much understands that there are people who will serve their country and those that cannot get that together and believe they are pretty much above that. Talk of starting the draft is political baloney meant to get sissies frightened and so they will get upset. The draft was ended under President Carter because there were so many cowards in the country it was pointless to draft them. Draft talk comes from the Dem Party in an effort to make sure that young Dems and other bedwetters will vote a particular way. I thinks its an effective tactic as it works on you. I would like to see the military relax the rules on gays becaues it would sure be a lot better to have a gay man in the military than the actual real gay guys, the average white male.

I do believe that many Americans would take it lying down, as the majority has proven that they are complacent. I hope that someday that will change. I do think that a number of people would be completely against it, but I question if it would be enough. I am sure though, that there would be a noticeable number.

I can personally say that I would revolt, and many of the people I associate with would do the same. I would be on the front lines of the revolution.

He's not going to create a draft. This surge they talk about is only a temporary thing like until May or something. And it wouldn't do any good for the people to revolt, they never did with any of the other wars but then they were patriotic in those.

I hardly think the Democratic congress currently discussing cutting funds for further conflict is very likely to reinstitute a draft. Hopefully we have matured beyond the gullibility that is required to institute a draft. However, there are plenty who volunteered to go to Iraq and avenge Afganistan's aggression, so you never know.

Oh, I think there would be great hue and cry. In fact it might just make some people who are too dammed selfish or busy sit up and take notice. It is okay when it is someone else dying for our freedom.. but different if you are the one asked to do it.

Might be a good thing tho' perhaps then it would arouse people to get after their reps and get this thing ended.. now! Bush has had more than enough time to settle this stupid war of his. it was all for oil anyway.. Enough is enough!

Considering that to date only Democrats have even brought up the subject...

If a draft was reinstated, you can thank the democratic house and senate for allowing it to fly through congress.

p.s. quit trying to scare yourself.
