My sister and I were Instant Messaging through Yahoo. She couldn't get her Yahoo avatar to change so she sent me her password so I could change it for her. Shortly after that, someone started changing her avatar, as we were talking it kept changing, and neither of us were doing it. Was someone able to get her password from our IM conversation? I told her to go change her password, which she did, and we'll never give something like a password while IM'ing again. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a way to find out for sure if it was a hacker, and whose computer they were hacking into?

zomg, at all the "IT WAS HACKERS!" posts. /me rolls eyes.
I can sum up what happened in three words.

Server Side Delay

No you were not hacked, the changes to the avatar were queued due to heavy server load (quite common on a Sunday night on Yahoo!), thats why they did not appear for a while.
In other words, each change to the avatar was registered (even if you couldn't see any change) and put into a que for processing when cpu cycles freed up, thus when server load went down, the changes began to show up. Avatar changes and updates are low importance server calls.

This is a terrible (though often amusing) place for accurate answers. Im still laughing at some of the posts on this one.
Change your password if it will make you feel better, but you were NOT hacked, lol.

Hope That Helps : D

It could have been a malicious cracker but never know.

The basic difference is this: hackers build things,
Hackers built the Internet. Hackers made the Unix operating system what it is today. Hackers run Usenet. Hackers make the World Wide Web work.

Crackers break them
A malicious meddler who tries to discover sensitive information by poking around. Hence password hacker, network hacker. The correct term for this sense is cracker.

Tell your Sister to run her Antivirus and Antispyware programs in the Safe Mode. If anything is found, delete them.

Tell her to physically disconnect her computer from the Internet (unplug the Phone line or unplug the modem/router). Change her windows password while offline.

Now, she needs to change the password of everything she uses a password on. I MEAN EVERYTHING.

If she has any information on her computer that can be used to steal her Identity (credit card numbers, SSAN, Bank Account etc) she needs to contact those organizations and make changes. Credit cards need to be cancelled and new ones issued. Bank Accounts need to be closed and a new one opened.

Most computers have a Remote Assistance program. This is what should be used when you want to allow a trusted person access to your computer. It doesn't give your Password to them or anyone else.

Not true hacking, more likely it was a bot, a program designed to jam, read, or "phish" IM conversations, Yahoo! Messenger is notorious for having many of these bot programs built on it, and oftentimes theyre used by annoying 12 year old kids on the Yahoo! chat rooms.

Very unlikely that someone intercepted your password through your conversation. Would take a highly motivated individual to accomplish that. Chances are is that was just a bug.

by tea-bagging them, in basic terms quite of in basic terms a common tea-bagging, we'd desire to consistently like dip our nads in ink, so as that it leaves a mark of their mouth. that way anybody would be attentive to it grew to become into them, and individuals won't overlook it.
