I watched half-time of the Super Bowl (and was disappointed when he kept playing other people's songs). It looked like he was barely touching the guitar.

It looks like he's barely touching the guitar because he's THAT GOOD. He's incredibly underrated concerning his guitar playing. I thought playing other people's songs (really well) was neat.

Does the Tinman have a sheet metal penis? Yes, he was playing but you have to understand that his original audience is now in their late 30s early to mid-40s and he needs to connect with a younger audience. Therefore, like all musicians do, they do covers of other people's songs. Ever go to a bar and wonder how people can get paid by daring to sing tunes they didn't write? That's the music industry. Prince needs to re-establish himself a new audience by becoming relevant again. Playing the Superbowl is a way for him to prove he's got star power and, therefore, relevant.

It looked like he was faking it... like they usually do for shows like this: record the whole thing in advance and then lip sync along with themselves.

Would YOU play the electric guitar on a lit stage with all the rest of those electronics and sing into a live mic in that rain???

It didn't look like he was really playing it to me, but I was very worried about the electrical equipment in the "purple rain"! I was glad though, because I was afraid that he was going to get shocked!

I THOUGHT THE SAME THING!

I think he was during most of the peformance. However, I also think there was some of back up track or back up guitarist.
I liked that he rocked out the performance. Tired of hip/hop.

He did and in the end he pulled the plug, I gather because of the rain.

I think that he was. He unplugged it though. Probably because of the rain. It bugged me when he was playing other people's songs though....
