I'm going to take it that the person who is shy should take it to his own matters, not about what other people think. Keep note that there are shy people, but there are people who want to stop being shy (improving themselves), or stay the way they are.

Now, why would people want to stop being shy? Here's a few examples:
1. they want attention and appreciation from others, but many do not give the shy person the attention they want/need
2. they are often misunderstood
3. they want to be more outgoing, and be able to entertain others without embarrassing themselves
....these examples are general.
Some real-life examples could be that there's this chick the shy guy likes, but she likes to be entertained and loves outgoing people who have great charisma. It could be that his friends are always labeling him as "the shyest" and people are even pressuring him (peer-pressure) because they take advantage of his embarrassment or shyness. And then there's the shy guy who likes alot of unique things, but everyone calls him weird- then along comes the loved funny and cool hunk who likes weird things too, but everyone accepts him for that.
Actually, about that last example- if you are pretty much proud of yourself and your interests, as ugly and such as you may be, people will admire your confidence [unless you have a very unlikable personality].
Alot of shy people [should] know that the reasons are because of confidence...from confidence you may get insecurity (like insecurity from rejection of peers) and their straying away (but solitude is not a bad thing, though doing this often gives people impressions that you are shy/do not have interest in other people/does not have a good "social status").
Good enough? ;]

As for how NOT to be shy, direct yourself to another question. :)

no, not at all. it is ok and normal to be shy. everyone has their own way to approach things. i actually think it is safer to be shy then not because people who are shy tend to be more cautious when they do things as far as relationships go than others. this saves a person a lot of heartache by not just feeling comfortable enough to jump right in and getting into things that they shouldn't be. be happy that you are shy. it has many advantages. hope this helps. good luck.

Not at all

I just do not like the outgoing ones who shy away from us because they think we are weird,stuck-up, unapproachable

so reach out to a shy person today and make a difference

Of course there is- but only if you never make an effort to be social, or even to sociallize. If you're being shy for the sole purpose of being careful, that's fine but you still have to make that effort. I'm sort of shy, myself.

No, there are many shy people. If it's you and it's bothersome, get some help for it. Usually as people age they get more vocal also.
