How about a family that is snowed in, because it's blizzarding, and they don't have much food, so they are mixing, and matching things to eat.

It's blizzarding like crazy mad here in NY!

Someone else had an assignment to write a story that took place during an era of historical significance. I thought that was such an interesting idea. Imagine you are yourself, but you are living in the civil war era, your best friend is a slave, or you are even a slave. Pretend you were James Lovell's child and talk about how scary it must have been to watch the trials and tribulations of Apollo 13.

Try to think about a time in history which interests you, and then write a story from someone's point of view who was living at that time.

Writers are always advised to write what interests THEM, because if you're excited about the story you're writing, it'll be a better story that people will more likely enjoy reading. So my question is -- what gets YOUR interest? What story would you like to tell? Who is it about? It helps some writers to begin not with an idea, but a character who needs or just wants something very much. Begin the story where your character decides to go after what he wants and throw all sorts of roadblocks into his path, real or imaginary.
There are a million different stories you could tell....all you have to do is figure out is WHO the story is about. Give us a character to care about, give him something to desire and send him on the path to find it, whether it's love or success or improving himself, etc....and if he struggles to succeed, we'll care about him and want to find out if he wins in the end.
You'll feel a real sense of accomplishment and pride yourself, if you create your story from your own head and heart, instead of having it handed to you by someone else here at YahooAnswers.
Good luck! Just have fun with it. That's what it's all about.

Using animals is often a great place to start for your main characters. I once wrote a story about parakeets, and it dealt with racism issues. There were two different colors (or more) and the main character had to find a way to prove they were all the same. He did this by composing a beautiful song with a fellow parakeet of a different color... etc This is basic more likely used for children. Just an idea. It worked for me I got an A on the paper.

I'am in the middle of one for my Mom. She has numerous bird feeders in her backyard and love watching "her feathered friends come and feed. One of the birds theat frequent is a "Lazulee Blue Bunting along w/ myrid of sparrows. So I gave Mom the name of Lazulee Blue and call the Sparrows Rat birds,Titled it "Lazulee Blue and the Rat Birds". Pick something you're interested in, give a Quirky name and see how many avenues it leads you down.

It would be easier to answer this question if we knew what grade you were in. Some stories are for older grammar or elementary school people where some are for high school or college assignment fulfillment. Please add this into your question by clicking on the pencil to make an add on to your question.

However, I did like the drunk stork idea. It really cracked me up.

I always find it easier to write about doind things I would never do- it really makes you get creative ex. a bank robbery or an eskimo village.

Write a dark-humor children's story about a stork who drinks a lot and drops babies to the wrong families.
