to induce myself naturally? I've been walking, and having sex with my husband but nothing is seeming to work. Any ideas? And does getting induced hurt?

getting induced is not what hurts hon..it's the contractions. although some of the medication to induce you can make you ill.

induction through medical intervention also may cause the contractions to be a bit more intense than normal contractions. for this reason some doctors have cut the amount given down a bit to allow for a more natural feeling labor.

example:
my first pregnancy was induced. the constractions were horrible, it was just awful (and my Epi did not work). i labored for about 6 1/2 hours before delivery and had a healthy baby boy. that was almost 9 years ago. i had group B strep with this baby, that's why they induced...and i was overdue.

my last pregnacy last year, i was induced again. the medication was not given to me so heavily...and i was laboring for about 13 1/2 hours before delivery. the contractions were painful...but managable without an Epi, and only minimal pain injections (2 shots). i had a healthy baby girl. i had gestational diabetes w/this baby...that's why i was induced.

i am currently pregnat, and an asthmatic and i will most likely have gestational diabeties again with this pregnancy so i will most likely be induced again due to my high risk factor. i hope i can avoid pain meds (i hate the way they make me feel).

i know you said that you've tried everything to get this labor started. have you dialated at all???
has your doctor asked if you would like to try and thin out your cervix to help induce labor? it's a little thing they put on the cervix or sometimes a cream that helps thin the cervix out.

your 6 days past due. most doc wont let you go longer than a week nowadays. if your not in active labor in 2 days...i'd call the doc and ask about your options.
stress can have something to do with it! your worried about it so much your body can't do what it needs to (go into labor), because it senses stress.

I was induced with my first (I had 3 in all). It was suprisingly good. I got a good night sleep.( The next 2 were middle of the night labors and that is much more exhausting.) Labor pains were slightly stronger, but on the other hand it only took 5 hours from the time that they broke the membrane until I delivered a healthy 8 lb baby boy. I am glad that I was induced because he could have been so much bigger If I had been left to deliver on my own. The doctor's reason was that my blood pressure was too high and I was 11 days past my due date. Please dont listen to all the horror stories, those people want to create drama and get attention for themselves. Its called labor because its hard work but If you go into it with a positive attitude and trust your doctors and nurses You will relax more have less pain and end up with the best thing that ever happened to you. PS The nurses are absolutely wonderful. Ask them for anything you need.

My very best wishes for an easy delively and a healthy baby.

I had to be induced. When I got to the hospital and got hooked up to the monitors, The nurses found that I was already contracting. However, after many hours of not dialating further, my doctor decided to give me the patocin (don't know how that's spelled!) I felt nothing at all and don't really remember much about that particular event of my son's birth. Trust me, you will have way more things that make you uncomfortable!! Don't stress and just relax, once the little one is here you will wish you had a little peace and quite. Enjoy your last few days and have fun. I have heard that certain pressure points can cause you to go into labor, I don't know how much truth there is to it though. The points are the skin inbetween your thumb and index finger and on your foot. So have your hubby or whoever give you a great foot rub. If nothing else your feet will feel good!

Try raspberry tea! My mother worked closely with an herbologist for several years, and he claimed that raspberry tea induced gentle uterine contractions, which help bring on a period when you're late, or induce labor when you're close to the time for the baby to be born. This has no negative side effects, and the worst that could happen is it doesn't work. Don't use the grocery-store raspberry tea, as it's just artificially flavored tea leaves. Go to an herbal store, or a natural foods store, and look for raspberry tea.

By the way, being induced shouldn't hurt any more than naturally going into labor (just make sure you go for the painkillers!!) Good luck, and (even though this is a little early) congrats! :)

I was induced last August. Initially it was supposed to be a c-section. I was dead against it, reaserched and found some yoga exercised to help the baby turn, and it worked. Never dialated on my own so I was induced. It is painful but I'm sure it's not as bad as recouperating from a c-section. Once the baby is out it's basicaly over (the pain that is). I read that having a lobster dinner helps, I had a big one, nothing happened but I enjoyed it. Search for yoga exercises for preganancy. One of my favs was the squat if anything it helps you with flexability to open wide (if you know what I mean). One thing to keep in mind, It's worth it every minute of pain will be forgotten the moment you hold your precious baby. Most importantly go with a positive mind and as calm as you can be do get the epidural you have nothing to prove to anyone. God willing everything will be fine. Congratulations and God bless you family!

Sounds like u are doing all of the right things right now to try and help labor progress more...The baby will come when he/she is ready though,u cant force it..I was induced with both pregnancies and yes it hurts im sorry to say..after being induced the pain kicks in very very quickly so make sure if u want it then ask for the epidural before hand so they can get it to you quicker.Keep on walking and having sex though even if it doesnt help the labor progress...once u get induced labor will be so much easier for you and much quicker by your walking etc. Good Luck and Congrats!!

Some say riding a bike or a horse will help, but my feeling is that the baby will come when the baby comes. I was late with both of mine, the first one was 10 days late and I got SO sick of everyone calling me and asking me "Well?" or "Are you still pregnant?" You too, right?

I think the best you can do is just treat yourself nice, have a pedicure, watch a funny movie, buy some fresh flowers, eat something fattening, whatever makes you feel good. After all, you won't have a lot of extra time for all that once the baby does arrive.

When you are induced, it may only feel like menstrual cramps, or it may feel much harder than that. You may have a harder, faster labor, but every woman is different. One good thing is that you know what day your baby will be born!

Take care of yourself, and good luck and congratulations!

I was going to recommend Raspberry tea as well....but it has to be real raspberry tea..not flavored, also, I was induced with my daughter and let me tell you...I'm pregnant now, I don't care if I go 3 weeks past due...I am not ever getting induced ever again...it was awful, you have no time for the contractions to build up...there just there, full force, one after another, I didn't want drugs, but as a result had no choice, it also put the baby in distress so I didn't get to hold her right away when she came out..don't know if this is typical or not with inducement, but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone unless they medically had to have it done like for health reasons etc....if you can avoid it....avoid it!

I used my breast pump. It makes your body release oxytocin which is the natural form of pitocin (which is what your Dr. will use to induce you.) It didn't work immediately for me, but that was probably because I wasn't to my due date yet. I could tell when I used it though that I would get alot of Braxton Hicks. I went into labor on my own so I didn't need pitocin, but I did have my water broken to help speed things along. I didn't feel it. I know how miserable those last weeks are, so hang in there sweetie. You'll be holding that beautiful baby before you realize it!!

I don't know anyone who actually delivered on their due date. And there isn't anything you can do to make it happen if it isn't ready. My daughter tried the long walks and everything else imagineable only to just wear herself out for nothing. I have never been induced, but my mother was and she said it was horrible. Yet others said it wasn't. I guess it depends on the person. Were you absolutely postive about the day you had your last period? I found that most of my friends were never sure.
