i just did a term paper on this. literally, finished it 10 minutes ago.

willy takes his own life in hopes that his life insurance, which he has been paying throughout the play and can be considered foreshadowing, will be passed on to Biff, and Biff can go on to become "great"

Define "failure." Willy gave up on his own life, but not on Biff. He still has high hopes for Biff and believes that he can life up to the standards of success set by the society he lives in.
