(x+5))+(2y-6)-(3x-2y) do the x's first
so you have x+5+2y-6-3x-2y,

1. (remember that when you have only a variable with no number, there's a one in front of it) so you have 1x-3x= (-2x)

2. (Now I'll do all the constants, the numbers without variables attatched to them) 5-6= (-1)

3. (Now the y's) 2y-(-2y)=4y (remeber here that there are 2 negative signs before the last 2, so 2 negatives make a positive)

-2x-1+4y I don't know what your teacher prefers, my teacher liked us to list the variables in alphabetical order and then the constants.

so, my teacher would want me to write this as -2x+4y-1 (both ways still give you the right answer though :) )

Try the second one yourself, I think you will do fine.

like everyone else said the answer to the first equation is 5x+y+6.

Because look you have (2x+5y-6) +(3x-4y+12) you break it down like this since you have like variables you take 2x+3x= 5x

then you have 5y-4y=1y or "y" then you have -6+12= 6. so your answer is

"5x+y+6"

I'm working on the same type of math in school..and figuring out your problem actually made me understand it a little bit better...Hope you understand now.

First, you add like terms. So, since both 2x and 3x have x's on them, you add those together. Do the same for the other terms. (5y-4y and -6+12)

You should get 5x+y+6.

Simply do the other problem the same way.

number one: (2x + 5y - 6) + (3x - 4y + 12)
= 2x + 5y - 6 + 3x - 4y + 12
= 2x + 3x + 5y - 4y - 6 + 12
= 5x + y + 6

number two: (x + 5) + (2y - 6) - (3x - 2y)
= x + 5 + 2y - 6 - 3x + 2y
= x - 3x + 2y + 2y + 5 - 6
= -2x + 4y - 1

im doing my math homwork rite now too :)

You just need to take each part of the equation separately. Take the x parts and add them together and then the y parts and so on. The answer for the 1st equation would be: 5x+y+6

And the answer for the second equation would be: -2x+4y-1

Always remember the signs when adding, subtracting, multiplying etc. + and + make +
- and - make +
- and + make -
