I am an underpriviledged teenager and at the age of 17 live like I am from the 1950's or 60's. I live in the slumy part of town but, have a happy life. Considering I am a girl is it weird I never want to leave this place?
A day in my life:
I wake up to a bell alarmclock (old fashioned)
I walk to school 2 and 1/2 miles away
I am in the smart class and make A's
I am made fun of because I don't want or have a cell phone, ipod, or popular clothes
After school a group of 8 of my close friends (a gang type) meet in the parking lot
There is only 2 girls in the group (includiing me) and the rest are boys
We walk home and I do my homework
after we meet at a local gas station, go to the park, or watch a movie
We usually steal from stores for cigarettes and beer
we are nice decent people just poor
our parents don't really care about what we do
we then go home at 11-2 and go to sleep
the odd thing is I want to graduate then live in this neighborhood the rest of my life

Also I have a boyfriend and he is part of the group. He is really tough and mean and beats people up. I like the bad boy type I guess and he is always so nice to me. He has never raised his voice to me, He is kind of like a greaser character I guess my whole group is except me.
I think. Anyway I am arfraid he is going to get hurt does anybody know what i could say to him?
He is a dropout and doesn't have a home he crashes at whoevers house he can. I might love him but, I can't tell. I don't know if he can love.
More about my life:
I am a dreamer. I usually crash at my buddie Johnni's place if my parents aren't home.
I was asked by a girl at school one day (preppy) why i went out with Danny (my boyfriend) and why i was always happy with my life?
I couldn't answer beause I had no real reason.
Please help me and maybe give me some reasons why I an so extremly happy with a life like mine.

Thanks everyone and let me explain the stealing
where I live its kind of normal to steal people do a lot worse. There isn't any drugs where I am from because everyone is way to poor.
somethings people do worse than stealing is fight, race in unsafe old cars, carry guns, and beat innocent people up. My group is one of the more innocent groups
many of you also said i may die but, its not as bad as you think our group play football in the park and dont lay around
one or two beers a night isn't bad and a couple of cigarettes arn't gonna hurt me are they?
Help i am so confused with my life?? But yet I am happy...so happy...

lastly only 3 people in my group go to school and i am one of them. I am the oldest of the people still in school. There is a girl 16 and a boy 15 who still go to school.
Also at my school people never like you even if you have a good personality and you are a good person unless you have money
its shallow i guess

i think that you have friends that you obviously love and even if there was only 2 of you it wouldnt matter. i go to a school where if you dont shop at abercrombie or american eagle and have the latest EVERYTHING your not cool. i dont shop anywhere expensive and i dont have an ipod or 3472374927342 channels on my tv....but im one of the more popular girls because im being myself. what im trying to say is... dont change people like you for you and not because of how you dress.

I think it's VERY cool of you to enjoy where you live, and that if you don't want a cell or iPod or the 'right' clothes, that you're not going to give into whatever someone else thinks is normal. The stealing part is iffy, but I understand if you're underprivileged.
It's amazing that you know exactly what you want and don't care what everyone else thinks...it may be odd...but it shows plenty of character. I'm amazed. : )

well if u want to then u can....i mean u steal though....no1 that is smart or poor like that would do that kind of stuff....but u know how u make A's and is in the smart classes....what would u wana smoke and drink beer and go home late? if u wana graduate then take care of ur body....cuz if u do this too much theres a 75% chance that ud die because u walk, study (while doin other bad stuff), drink, and sleep late.....theres no way u can graduate because ud b tire....good luck and remember 75% chance of DYING!

i'm so sorry yet why do human beings tihnk that being a virgin is a undesirable situation???? i are not getting that for the life of me! If a guy is a virgin apparently he's gay, if a woman's a virgin of path she's a prude!!! What the **** is erroneous with society!!!! Dude, you at the instant are not hurting every person, which includes your self! I do not see anything wrong with it. If that is your hearts desire right now. If you change your mind later you can always move. It sound like you have friends in the neighborhood that you do not want to leave and there is nothing wrong with that. If and when it is time to move on, be willing to grown and move forward when the time is right.

not really odd just unusual. i thought you were ok until you said that you steal to get cigarettes and beer. stealing is wrong and one day you will get caught and go to jail. And you are way too young to drink alcoholic beverages or smoke. you keep that up and you will be in jail or dying of cancer. make better choices and be happy.

I don't think that's "odd" per say. Lots of people want to stay in the neighborhood that they grew up in, right? I think the question is more about whether it is a productive choice.
