I think it's not quite that--it is more self-destructive and self-degrading than insulting to only women. Much of these videos glorify what used to be considered plagues on black communities. While a lot of hip-hop, even in the eighties, was slightly misogynistic, it got worse once these attitudes became culturally marketable. I think at lot of people here missed the point of degradation: even if a booty dancer doesn't necessarily represent yourself, I'm not quite sure our youth know the difference. Especially for economically disadvantaged youth, such videos DO set a bad example for what is socially and morally acceptable.

I think the main reason you hear and see what you do is because the recording industry is controlled to a very high degree by males - usually young, sometimes without a high education (but only sometimes). A woman corporate head would never let this tripe be published under the guise of "art". It's just dirty boys singing (?) dirty words because no one has stopped them.
But it's also about the mega bucks - people who "like hip hop/rap" continue to sink billions of $$ into a cultural swamp that denigrates women.

It might just be that the company or artist is into that sort of thing. The company may thing it sell better. The women may think they have a better chance at being in a video if they dress that way.

Wow you know what i was just thinking about a little while ago. I think its just the appeal of the woman and that they think thats how they should act. But I'm not 100% sure why.

Degradation of women, criminal behavior and the glorification of violence is the primary bases for that particularly odious subculture.

Becuase guys are pigs and they like to watch girls with huge behinds degrade themselves for cash. Our society is messed up.
