Mint Leaves may repel some kinds of ants and not others. If you just want to get rid of some ants I will list a website below for you to read through. But if you just want to know if mint keeps them away, then yes they will go away from it but it wont stop them from infesting something.

Mint leaves are often used by many campers to repel mosquitoes. It is also said that extracts from mint leaves have a particular mosquito killing capability. Mint oil is also being used as an environmentally friendly insecticide for its ability to kill some common pests like wasps, hornets, ants and cockroaches. Merely growing the plant around the foundation does not repel ants. It still has to be processed before using it as an incsecticide.

Mint will repel some, but not all ants.
A good mult-insect repellent (cockroaches, termites, fire ants, fleas etc.) is boric acid.
For household ants mix with a small amount of sugar or jelly. If you prefer to spray, use Ivory soap and water.

Lavender will do the trick. That, and the wonderful aroma, is why people plant lanvender near doorways and windows of homes.
Mint has no effect on ants and I would not want it in my garden, due to its highly invasive nature. It took me about 7 years to clear my front garden of an unfortunate patch, since it sends out underground stolons to grow and make a carpet.

I don't know about mint but try bay leaves, they have been used for decades. I know they work. Put them around windows, in the base of plants, under kitchen cupboards and anywhere the pesky little creatures like to come into the house.
