I have heard many people say that. I don't understand what it means, unless, carrying a lunch exerts energy. I believe it's just a question to make people go huh??

I think they are suppose to be separate sentences. They are asking if you walk to school and they also want to know if you pack or do you buy your lunch at school. At least that is what I get from it.
