It drips into a 2 1/2 gallon bucket and fills about once a month but it drives me nuts. Who is responsible for the meter? The utility company or me? Does it need to be replaced if it leaks water or is there just a small part on it I can replace? My house is circa 1905 in Ohio. The meter looks fairly new, however.

In most cities and towns the meter is the utility company's responsibility. Give them a call and they should repair/replace it for free unless there was some obvious damage that may have been caused by the occupants.

The meter manufacturing company does that as a gag. On one out of every 10 meters they sabotage them to make them drip. There's nothing you can do. Ever tried to buy a water meter at the home center? They are just sadistic.

If the leak is before the meter, or on the meter it's self, they city should take care of it. It it is after the meter, then you will be responsible.

Utility company will take care of it. It belongs to them. You don't touch.
