do you think we really need to work at all on fridays anymore? why yes and why no?

what do you think might happen to society in general if morning people worked early a.m. to early p.m. shifts; afternoon people worked early p.m. to later p.m. shifts; and night people worked from the late evening to early morning? what about all of us choosing which days out of 7 that we work on?

it would take companies using heat & electricity all night long; public transportation running around the clock.

but wouldn't it reduce stress? or, would there be a new stress due to husband & wife working different schedules?

wouldn't it reduce overloads on expressways, therefore reducing the need to forever patch holes on highways?

would it reduce road rage, rush hour nervousness?

would it reduce the stress of having to do laundry & shopping on saturdays/sundays only? would you change the day you do the chores?

do you think you'd have better time w/your family with such changes?

Hey, no kidding, I was just telling my co-workers that we should be working 4 days on (Mon.-Thurs.) and 3 days off (Fri.-Sun.). Are you a mind reader? Anyway, I think that this would alleviate a certain amount of stress and give us more time to spend on ourselves and with our loved ones. It would enhance family relations and as a whole, I think that our society would improve due to a decreased amount of stress and tension. I'm glad to see that someone is with me!! You rock!!

Highway issues would not change all that much, nor would family issues. Some types of work are best performed at the current ways of shift positioning. Some flexibility, would be appropriate, so long as production needs are met. The problem is that many companies do not want to be that flexible. They have control over the people that work for them, and do not want to change.
For a person working 2 jobs, the change to a 10 hour job would only work if both were 10 hour jobs, but that would only leave 4 hours for sleep and other needs, which is a good way to kill yourself. Those doing 2 jobs, I would have to ask, "why". If it is for just to make ends meet, then I would still have to ask why? Where you live is not the most important thing. Enjoying life is much more important than having things that will break, or that you become disinterested in. Your work schedule is what you make of it. Your thoughts and how you view your situation is the most probable cause of anxiety and discouragement. Is it really important to have lots of things, or is it more important to enjoy what you do have. I think our society is so caught up in "having" and "doing" that no job schedule will ever make any difference. Having less and enjoying life is always more important than having more, and not being able to enjoy it. Doing lots of things for our children is not nearly as important as having time to do things with them.

Actually, I believe in Germany, they work 4 day weeks. They work four 10 hour days, so they have 3 days off. Hey, I am all for that myself. I am already working two jobs seven days a week.
