I told someone in my family that they were hurting my feelings. They didn't hear me and laughed me off. Finally, in my 30's I am tired of it. I emailed them and told them 4 points that i would no longer accept (things they said or did that hurt my feelings). They got very angry and told me that I am serious, over sentive and very manipultive. that I am making a moutian out of a mole hill. Even if this person is right... don't my feelings still count? Even if these things are true.. don't I still get to say what bothers me?

I would answer that they are IN-sensitive, and that I feel I have to manipulate to be heard or get my point across, and that I am pursuing the point because I care about the relationship, and want it to be a healthy one.
Someone else does NOT get to decide what is a mountain or a mole hill to me, just the same as I don't get to decide that for them. Just because the issue doesn't mean anything to them doesn't lessen the meaning for you, and in a moment of calmness, I would explain that. Everything is relative!

Your feelings always count. Remember everyone has their own point of view.

Why do you say you are being manipulative? It sounds like you just aren't agreeing with your families opinions.

A few sessions with a therapist, may help you realize, that you aren't always wrong, and are entitled to your own opinion.

Most definitely your feelings count.. And yes you should express how you feel when something bothers you. (We have to respect ourselves first or others won't respect us). Some people you can express how you feel and you can have a mature talk about it. Others you just have to say what you feel, move on and don't let it bother you.. I hope you can work things out...

Of course your feelings count. People need to be sensitive and realize when they are hurting other people's feelings. They should pay attention.
