When I first try to accelerate is hesitates and sputters a little then it just goes in to a full violent shake. It just started today while out shopping. The shaking (and jerking) got so bad about 10min from home, I had it towed. I have never had this happen to a vehicle, but it scared me too bad to drive. Please help.

Oh, well, that's not a tire, steering, suspension or brake problem. There's a problem with the engine. Most likely a fuel system or ignition system problem. I don't think some people read the entire question before answering it. Sputtering has nothing to do with tires. - The next comment sounds like an advertising for lemonprotection.com

Anyway, good luck. There's something wrong with the engine. I'll bet the fuel or ignition system. Nothing with the ECM (electroinic control module)

There are several things that can cause shaking
1) Engine shaking can be caused by misfiring by bad computer commands.
2) Steering shaking can be cause be steering or suspension parts worn or loose
3) Brakes shaking when stopping can be cause by defective brake rotors warped, loose wheel bearings
4) Transmission shuttering or shift shock can be cause by slippage or likely computer command problems.
From what little info you gave it sounds like the engine computer is not letting the engine run correctly, Hope this helps try and be a little more specific in your description next time. If the vehicle is new then you might want to read the book "Lemon Protection Identifying a Lemon" found on lemonprotection.com. This will help you know what to do with a lemon. Good Luck and GOD Bless.

Did the steering wheel shake or the seats? If so you have a tire out of round. Steering for the front, seats for the back. If this is the problem get new tires.

sounds like the ignition wiring is shorting out .......probably needs ignition components checked by your most favorite car engine repair man..........some autoparts stores will check the problem for you free if you can get it at their store where they have the ignition electronic tester.....it only takes 2 minutes usually and like I said before ....its free.!!! and its not a rip off... P.S. does that help??
