Actually, I would not suggest a patent lawyer if this is your first invention. A patent agent is probably better. Generally, they are cheaper, because they require less training. A patent lawyer is someone who went to law school. A patent agent only must have a bachelors degree, albeit in something scientific. Patent lawyers are usually patent agents, but not the other way around.

I can get you names if you'd like, but you'd have to tell me what city you're in. Otherwise, just look up patent agents in the phone book, search for them online, or you can call the people on TV--usually there are commercials regionally for companies that will help you patent inventions.

Finally, I can tell you to ignore all this and patent it yourself if you want to. All the forms are available to you and you can try to work through the stuff on USPTO.gov

It's much easier to have an agent, but it's cheaper to do it yourself. Don't get a patent lawyer unless you become a full-time inventor and/or there's an impending lawsuit, where you're suing someone else for profiting off your invention or someone is suing you because they claim they made it first.

Depends. Did you invent it? Yes you can Patent it. Now if you are trying to patent something like the wheel then no. It has to be a NEW product or an IMPROVEMENT to an exsisting product.

If you have deep pockets. Call a patent attorney. The search to determine this is in fact an original work can be long and costly.

Do you mean that the patent has lapsed - if you do, you cannot patent it again yourself.

If it is something you have invented - yes. You can patent it. Where you go, and how you do it, will depend on in which country you are.

Call an intellectual law attorney. You will need to have at least $6,000.00 to pay in fees to start.
