whenever he see's a sentence of words like on a sign or poster, label, books ect...he can naturally add up the amount of letters in that sentence in 2 seconds...i mean a sentence which has alot of words....like yesterday he added the words "THE AUSTRALIAN WOMENS WEEKLY COOKBOOK" in less than 2 seconds...he adds it in a flash...he feels its a problem,we tested him yesterday and the little bugger gets it right all the time...he added "swimming pool and spa association of victoria" in 2 seconds too...what does this mean when someone has this habit and can add it all up so quick?

when I was little I used to play with numbers and words all the time. Counting letters in words, sentences, paragraphs, and playing with things like car number plates making sentences out of the letters adding the numbers all kinds of things like that. At the time I didn't think too much about why I did it but I later figured it was because my brain was otherwise rather bored. Then I discovered encyclopedias and decided to memorise a whole bunch of facts and figures, some of which still come to me over thirty years later for no apparent reason other than that i had memorised them and stored them someone in mymind...

Later I had a great teacher who upon finding me sitting in the library with an encyclopedia asked me what I was doing and he said "what for?" and I had to admit I was doing it because I wanted to be very clever he told me "You know the smartest people in the world do not know everything, but they do know where and how to find the information when they need it..."

I took his point and as I had already figured out the dewey decimal system in the library and knew where to find the books I needed I could go outside and play because the information would be there when I needed it..

If your son is obsessed by the need to know the umber of letters in a sentence then that may be a problem that he is obsessed by that one process, but if he can play around with it and count the words and paragraphs too.. if he can do other things with his ability then he doesn't have a prolem he has a vast amount of intelligence and needs to find a way to channel it to something he is interested in....

And as an aside if he is into words and numbers so much he could enquire into some ancient systems such as gematria that involve assigning numbers to words and words to numbers and decoding the written language in such a way.

And he certainly has a future in coding and decoding messages...

By the way if you or he has seen A Beautiful Mind.... don't believe it ... it was just a movie... lol

smart little guy! He seems to have good "spatial math" concept (my personal terminology). in accordance to effortless sense, i ought to ought to say that see you later as he's not distracted from reading and comprehension, and easily performs his psychological exercising even as on down time, it truly is going to pose no problem. As a baby, i ought to work out if a determination that stuck my eye (eg, a telephone, social safe practices, or vehicle plate determination) change into divisible with assistance from any of the sole-digit numbers. a million & 2 were no relaxing (great ordinary), and seven change into the most perplexing, for sure. After a time, i ought to do this in a blink. It change into extra a case of conserving my ideas busy and exercised -- throughout daydream time, in case you ought to. It did not by any means impact my concentration even as dealing with really mathematical complications as I grew to change right into a math prodigy. in case your son unearths that he's being distracted from the reading and comprehension of a textual content with assistance from his little psychological exercising, you'll favor to cope with this with a professional. something (notwithstanding constructive) can change into obsessive and distracting if taken to extremes and would impact his gaining knowledge of. in the different case, he might want to savour his means. i have continuously believed that psychological exercising is as major because the actual type, with advantages that we merely commence to have a good time with later in existence. the hot medical questioning bears me out: they have found that paintings out the mind slows down (often times significantly) very much of age-correct psychological deterioration.
