I don't think it so much has to do with regret, rather it's more to do with dissatisfaction. We're human after all, and sometimes admitting mistakes/ defeat is just not acceptable as it's seen as a failure.
I know, I've been there; am familiar with the feeling.
It's a lot harder to move on because we can't let go and make peace with it.

We may say "I regret about this..." but truthfully, we regret about nothing.If we did everything perfectly, then what would be left for us to remember?Moreover,it is better to have companctions for something that you did than for something you didn't.

In my opinion, it is wasted energy to regret. You did what you thought was best in the moment, and you can't take it back.

I don't know, maybe they like to keep themselves on the hook.
