I just put in my mother's DVD drive from her compaq, and it won't open for me, my mom said that the drive didn't work for her machine either so, how can i fix this problem?
(i'm pretty shure all the cables are plugged in properly)

The drive is trashed! If the power cable is plugged in properly and it didnt work on hers, the drive is done for and you WONT fix it!
As for the other posts, aint no amount of drivers or firmware that will rectify this problem! If the power is connected, even if the data cable is unplugged, the door should still open and close! Stick to fixin sandwiches!

Yep, check the cables are secure, if its a removable drive, pop it out and re-insert. May be worthwhile giving it a blast of canned air. Otherwise talk to whoever replaced the MoBo. Good Luck

Try going to the compaq website or other websits on the web to update the firmware on the drive. .. That solved my similar problem.

You might need to check the jumper on the back, and set it to master or slave depending on how it is used. then reboot, enter the bios and see if it is recognized by the computer. If so, boot. If not, throw it away.

make sure the drivers for the dvd drive are installed.
