I am doing a newspaper project in my social studies class and my teacher is a really hard grader. Every little mistake I make, she marks me down a grade. How can I improve my writing skills?

There are many grammar and reference books out in the stores, but I recommend you spend $7.00 for a pocketbook titled, "The Elements of Style" written by Strunk and White.

Inside is a wealth of information for novice and professional writer, highly recommended by Stephen King. The book should rest right beside your keyboard. It is chock full of useful writing habits to form and some habits to eliminate.

What's more, you are showing your willingness to write well as evidenced by the question you formed here.

Read brilliant writers like Shelby Foote, James Joyce, Edgar Allen Poe, Hemingway, James Michener, Herman Melville just as a start. You could also go to a Library and pose your question to the librarian. Reading is best way, read and observe the masters at work. You could also put Strunk and White's and American Heritage Collegiate Dictonary by you bedside and read a few pages every day before you fall asleep

What are you having trouble with? Spelling and grammar? Use a spell checker.

If you want to improve in writing altogether, then think about what you want to say and how you want to say it in your head. Then write down exactly what you're thinking. When I write, I always have to sketch out what I'm thinking, and then I write a final draft. Reading a lot helps, too.

See a tutor, and start keeping a journal. Writing down exactly what you're thinking and feeling (even if it is sloppy) helps get the words flowing, and with patience, it will get easier to express yourself: feelings/persona, school, writing letters... get in the habit and you'll become a better writer.

Just keep going over your paper...at least ten times...and then once you're done with that...take your writing to an adult have them make corrections...and have them show you what you're doing wrong...

you should first do it in word and let it spell check it, just this time, and try writing about something and spell checking it or asking someone to spell check it everyday.
