Every year they go sun bathing and darken their skin

If white women don't tan themselves to look like black women, then why do some people say asian women keep their skin pale to look like white women?

I used to tan my skin all the time, but it was never an attempt to look black.

Without trying to cause any offence, I think 'darker' women sometimes lighten their skin to look more like white women, due to an inferiority complex about their race, so it's not the same.

Anyway, I'm as pale as snow now. I wish I never tried to tan in the first place and I urge any woman, regardless of her colour to stay away from tanning beds and to protect herself in the sun with a high factor sunblock.

Thank you : )

I haven't the foggiest, yet from the commercials I see on TV in Saudi Arabia the women here ( some) are bent upon being as pale as white women. A lot of those skin bleaching products are out on the shelves; one of which I have seen is called Fair and Lovely.

It isn't about wanting to "look like Black women". Its because when a White woman prefers to have that "golden" look she believes it makes her look healthier and is more flattering.

The world is full of White women who are entirely happy with their pale complexion and try to play up the "Dresden Doll" look instead of tanning.

And I think about covers it when it comes to the majority of White women..

If Asian women, in fact, do protect their skin from the sun it could be because they are more aware of skin cancer for some reason.)

It depends on the cultures beliefs... In asian culture the rich people stay inside and don;t have to work outside therefore it is preferable for the ladies to have pale skin, where as in western society it is thought that you are "healthy" if you have a tan therefore it is preferable to look more tanned.

As far as sunbathing is concerned, women mainly do it to look nicer/healthier.
Think about it: pale skin usually equates to sickness.
There have been studies about healthy skin and the ability to attract a potential mate. Those with tan skin tend to look healthier and usually attract more partners than those with pale skin because pale skin appears more sickly.

Also, I find that tan skin enables us to have a broader range of color choices as far as clothing goes. Pale people do not look good in white and yellow. When tan, these colors work.

its not about looking like black women.

before the 50s, fair skin was all the rage. in fact, in medieval europe, women use to add a blue powder to their skin so it appeared transparent.

however, times have changed. fads since the 1960s surfer era have changed the way we see skin pigment. being in the sun and on the beach became a sign of social personality and spirit. since then, women have been trying to achieve tanned appearances despite the constant warnings against skin cancer.

I wouldn't say they're trying to look like back women, they just think tans look nice (not sure why). Wait till they're battling skin cancer, age spots at an early age and dealing with leathery-looking skin...yuck.
Japanese women like their skin white because it's a social status thing. Back in the day, if you were dark, it meant you worked in the field. They still believe that.

Having a tan used to be a sign of low class because it meant hard physical labor outdoors where as if you did not have a tan it meant you were educated and had a job that kept you out of the sun. It seems the roles have switched and a tan means you have more leasure time.

i have never heard anything so stupid. We tan because it helps the skin look young and it helps make acne go away. And mabye we like the idea of hip hop but we're not "tring" to look like a black woman. And the whole asian part... dude no offence you are a gayso.
