I always thought they had a bit of Anteater in them but could be from sticking their noses down holes all day
Maybe even a little magpie as they collect loads of rubbish too with just a touch of Bernard Cribbin

I reckon:-
1/4 Polar Bear (must be because Wimbledon common is bloody cold in February!)
1/4 Sloth (look at Orinocho!)
1/4 Rat (hence the nose)
1/4 Winnie the Pooh (hence the tubbiness)

Morphological considerations (see Wikipedia illustration) suggest a common ancestor with raths. Porcinity is further evidenced by the absence of sweat glands, omnivorous habit, sensitivity to sunlight, and a fondness for chocolate hobnobs.
To clinch the rath connection, consider the second citation (with speakers on). To my ear, Orinoco's audible productions sound very like outgrabing, albeit with only the most genteel bellowing and whistling, and without an audible sternutation.

I think they may be a close relation to the rat. If you have a look at Roland Rat you will see the similarity. There may also be some genes shared with Clangers. Distant cousins maybe?
