He will be 12 months old on Feb. 15 and we have been giving him a little cup of milk with snack but he doesn't seem to like it as good as the formula. When I run out of formula I'm worried that he will not be drinking enough.

I don't think it's too early especially if he has not been prone to allergies. It may not be the milk that he doesn't like it may be the temperture.Did you warm his formula or give it to him at room temp? You may want to consider the same temp for the milk then get him adjusted, slowly to cold milk.

No, its not too early, a few weeks won't cause him any harm. But if you find that he's not taking it well for you, you could try mixing it with the formula starting with 1/4 cow's milk to 3/4 formula and increasing the quantity of milk every few days until it is all cow's milk.

With only a couple of weeks left start making half formula half full fat milk (wait while cold if storing before mixing) gradually reduce to 1:3 whole milk the just whole milk if he has plenty of yoghurts and cheese not a problem (my son loves the dairylea cheese strips-not the ripper more processed looking ones).
Or robinsons do a cordial for milk to flavour it not sure of sugar content though. Or make him a smoothy with banana, strawberry or mango etc (or bit of each) not thick he'll get fruit then aswell:o)

Yes, it's a good idea to get him use to Whole milk now. You need to do half and half. Fill a bottle or sippie cup half with milk and half with formula to get him used to it. Then slowly take away more of the formula and have more of the milk.

Back in the old days, they didn't have formula and all they had was milk so if a women had trouble breast feeding, they gave the baby real milk in the beginning.

No but you should try and keep giving him formula milk it has more nutrients for him... also when you give him cerial for breakfast just use the cows milk and not formula.

I've been using cows milk since my son was about 9months in foods but still giving him formula even now at 13months as a drink about 2 times a day... same thing he does drink cows milk but prefers formula... let him decide...

Good luck!

You should practice giving the baby whole milk but don't start give it often, you still need to give the baby formula until he or she is 12...and my baby is also turning 12 on Feb. 14 and i am worried about that too...i am still practicing to give her whole milk but every time i do she don't want to i guess it needs time ...good luck

All three of mine where on whole milk by now but if you are worried that he doesnt like the taste try the follow on milk which you can use up to the age of two as a drink.

Yes it is fine to start giving it to him now. Back in the day, they only gave them formula until they were 6 months old. Then they changed to a year. They used to tell you to start feeding them cereals at 3 months, now they say 6. I grew up without having bottles, my mother said I wouldn't take them, and she had no milk to nurse me with. She said she had to feed me straight from the table. I grew up fine. Once your child has started eating, he no longer needs the milk as much. He is old enough now you can be feeding him from the table. Soft foods, such as small bits of hamburger, chicken, fish, and other soft foods. He should be eating veggies now too, along with mashed potatoes. Macaroni and cheese is excellent for young children as well. My grandson is 14 months old now, and can eat lots of things we all eat. Last night he got into my donuts after having had macaroni and fish for dinner, and ate a whole donut. LOL No he isn't fat either, he is small actually, but all my grandchildren were. They thought my other grandson was going to be very short. He is now 5' 10 and not yet 16. Did you ever think that maybe he might like chocolate milk? You can buy 1% chocolate milk, it is very healthy for them. Just as much so as the white milk.

Wait til he is 1yr and put him on whole milk gradually, mix 1 ounce whole milk and 8 ounce formula to start, then alter by adding an extra ounce of whole milk over a period of time, otherwise he will end up with an upset tummy. Good luck x

My son is 20 months old and he still refuses cows milk. I don't give him formula or anything, but I make sure his diet is full of calcium by giving him lots of yoghurt's and cheese and things. Just persevere with the milk and he might start to enjoy it but at the moment, he's young enough to carry on with the formula. It isn't set in stone that they should have cows milk only now he's one (almost) you know as Mum what to give him.
