Marilyn Monroe used to starve herself prior to modelling shoots. in the sixties, there was a model named Twiggy, she was really like a twig...
but way further back than that, not sure during what period(s) women actually died from wearing their corsets too tight...I'm glad they're not in fashion, but some women (and men, too) do still wear them today.
there's something to do with a smaller waist, in proportion to the bust and the hip measurements, being more desirable..

In the 60's...Twiggy and all the other supermodels of that time were the 'Kate Moss' of their day. And it's gone downhill ever since.
