Can anyone tell me when animal testing for cosmetics started and how many animals are killed every year in the U.S. for animal testing just for cosmetics?

I'm writing an essay on animal testing.

I dont know about testing, but all the fat on the animals that are slaughtered for us to eat is liquified and made into cosmetics. Im an electrician and ive worked at slaughter houses and asked what they did with all the scrap and fats from the animals.

The issue isn't how many animals are killed. It's how many are tortured by the testing. They are forced to eat the products, rub them in their eyes, inhale them, etc. Many animals do not die but are blinded, made incredibly sick, etc.

Go to the PETA website for specifics.
