Ooh, I ask this question all the time, and I rip people apart who make the excuse that it's okay for girls to be gay, but not guys. I hate that, hate it with a passion.
For some people it's okay because their image of a lesbian is the playboy bunny fake lesbian from the pornos, and for some reason they just can't see two guys having sex.
First of all, if your mind is consumed with thoughts of how guys have sex every time someone mentions the word "gay" then you've got bigger problems on your hands. A lot of people, when they think of gay people, they think all we do is have sex. I'm like, come on, I've been celibate over a year now-and yes, I've had relationships.
I just ripped somebody up for saying something like "Lesbians are okay, but if it was a dude, noooooo buddy." Are you kidding me?
People like that are ignorant. I'm a lesbian, but I'm so far from the playboy image, so I guess it's not okay for me to be gay, either.
It's only okay for women to be gay if they're blonde-haired, blue eyes, and about 100 pounds MAX.

Depends on the group that you ask. I think they are both equally acceptable. Since the verbal homophobic groups seem to be predominatly heterosexual males you hear more against gay men, that is why it may seem lesbianism is more accepted.

Personally, i think because women generally have beautiful bodies. and some people see women as "cleaner" than men. and girls who are friends tend to be physically closer than guys who are friends, so it's always been that girls touch each other more than guys touch their friends, you know? (wondering if that makes any sense at all...)
girls are generally sensitive and more emotional than men. Men are "supposed" to be these big, tough guys. I don't know...you see where I'm goin with this? I hope so, because I'm drawing a blank now....
