An "insurgent" is anyone who does not have the same beliefs or value judgments as George Bush. George Bush says we need to fight them because they want to kill us because they do not believe in the same things he does.

The word insurgent suggests that huge amounts of people have surged into Iraq and are fighting the US so it looks like the Iraqis are happy to have been invaded and turned into a disaster zone.

And look at the power of language. It has worked well, tell the media they must use this word and you change a nation fighting against a foreign invader into an international background.

Insurgents are also known as guerilla fighters; people who utilize unconventional terroristic warfare tactics to fight against the established public order. Referring to Iraq, the insurgents there are fighting against all sides: Shia, Sunni, the current Iraqi government, and the US coalition. Why do we resist them? Because we believe that the established government in Iraq has legitimacy, and we have gone on record to defend their right to govern; we also believe in freedom of religion, and that no one should attack a group simply because of their religious orientation.
