ill try and clarify better: i want to be able to just plug in my router into an electrical outlet, hardwire my xbox to that router and still get internet. I have a primary router plugged into my modem but i would like to plug the 2nd one in upstairs and and act as a an access point for my 360

peekay ur seriously just stupid. modems are not any under circumstances other than dial up internet connected through phone lines. if i had dial up i would not being playing xbox live. internet is run though a cable coaxial cord or fireobtic wire. just stop trying, seriously you obviously dont know what an acsess point is or anything about internet in general.

way to further assert the fact that you have no idea what you are talking about. you didnt backup your statements at all, all you did was retreat to the cowardly defense of making fun of my spelling. sorry that yahoo answers is not that big on my priority list to the point that i would care about spelling at all. but anyways you are dumb and have no idea what you are talking about, why dont you go and try plugging your toaster into a phone jack or put an ethernet cable into an electrical outlet or something because you clearly dont even understand the basics of networking or internet if you dont know that modems are not connected through phone lines.

Yes, that is what a router is.

But what do you want to do with the other one?

yes, a wireless router and a wireless access point are the same thing - if you want plain internet access or internet access for gaming with a pc/psp/whatever then either the router will need a built in modem or a modem plugged into it, then the device connects to the internet via the wireless router.

EDIT:
if you wanted to connect one router to the xbox via ethernet then create a repeater, you'd have to replace the firmware on the linksys routers and then configure the whole thing - something i'm imagining is way beyond your abilities, but feel free to find one of the many guides online which will tell you how to configure both routers. it's only a 10 second job to find such a guide if you know what you're talking about lol.

"and telephone lines r not involved at all" "modems are not any under circumstances other than dial up internet connected through phone lines" make your mind up, or try clear english - don't contradict yourself - first you're saying there are no phone lines involved and then there are?

i never suggested once that you had dial up, but xDSL connections which are the most common form of broadband still uses the old copper telephone lines to transmit data between the telephone exchange and your house. excuse me for not having my crystal ball to hand if you're only now saying you use cable internet *rolls eyes*.

i don't have to prove myself to anyone, and you're 100% correct - i have no idea what "fireobtic" is, or what a "acsess point" is - fibreoptic and access points i have heard of, but whatever you're trying to spell i've never heard of, but would love to learn...

It ain't the Wii or the router, that is the relationship itself. a thanks to setup for it really is to automobile-seek for, click your router and form interior the password. Distance should not be a subject matter (interior of reason, my Wii is interior the basement and the router is a million floor up and 50ft over). the determination of your router might want to probable be an situation, even though it isn't going, as only showing up on your television exhibit is an illustration that that is interior of determination. All passwords you've should be entered wisely into the Wii, otherwise the Wii will attempt to connect yet no longer some thing will happen. sturdy luck!!!

You can very well do this. You'll be able to play Xbox and use the web. I was in the exact situation you're in now and the wireless router works like a charm. Also, make sure you have protection with you wireless router-chances are higher that hackers can intrude, but get anti-hacker or some sort of protection and you'll be fine.
