Next time (because you have to get it first few minutes) know roughly when you are to start and have a painkiller ready and waiting. Be prepared to take it just as SOON as you feel anything. ANY twinges! It is important because pain relief works on nerves and once you have pain it is hard to convince the brain that the nerves are no longer sending the pain signal.

I am in the UK and we use something called Ibuprofen for this kind of pain. This works well because it is also an anti-inflammatory and stops swelling from the soreness. It works better than painkillers which contain aspirin or paracetamol. For MOST.

Other than than you are going to have to wait for up to an hour to kick in.

And the others are right- heat from a pad or (UK thing again) a hot water bottle is ace. Curl up around this placed against your tum and lie on your side or have a bath. Make sure, though, that the bath is not too hot and that you drink plenty of liquids.

Exercise in the run up to your period and DURING, IF you can bear it, is a good idea as it helps relax those areas which cramp up.

:-)

I had never heard of the banana thing but that sounds great if you are also feeling hungry "but not" (queasy) as bananas are real power foods.

Grab a heating pad, some Pamperin, a blanket, and curl up to sleep! See your doctor to make sure you aren't having this terrible period for some underlying reason, some of the reasons are pretty serious, and its better to be safe than sorry! Also, wearing pads instead of tampons sometimes helps to relieve some cramps too during that time. Hot baths or showers help out too, maybe a combination of these will help you. I have also heard something about making a "tea" with oregano and that it works wonders, but I have never tried it myself...good luck to you.

I don't really think there's a real way to get rid of cramps w/out pill. You can try lying down or something but there's no guarantee. What pills did you take? Because Midol works really well if you haven't tried that.

I hope they go away! Good luck.

Take a warm bath. The heat from the water will help relieve the pain. Or, if you have one of those gel face masks, heat it up and lay it across your lower stomach.

Walking helps too, for some reason (or at least it helped with mine).

Drink lots of water before and during your period.

For some people excerise helps, others it is a heat pack or ice pack. Ultimately it depends if it is a "normal" cramping or if the cramping is caused by something else, if you havent been reviewed recently by your practitioner in relation to this, i would suggest it, as some gyno issues present as cramping. good luck.

Get a heating pad, lay down and put it over your abdomen. It really soothes the cramping pain.

Sometimes birth control pills help lessen the pain from cramps. If you aren't old enough for them you will have to ask your doctor for advice.
