I am 39 weeks and 2 days pregnant. I have been dialated to 3cm and effaced 70% for 2 1/2 weeks now. For the past several days I have been having menstrual-like cramps. I began losing my mucous plug about 1 month ago, but in the last two days it has changed to a HUGE amount. Every night I think, "it could be tonight", and every morning I wake up and I'm still pregnant. Any thoughts as to when this baby might make his appearance?? This is my first time so I am clueless.

You're progressing better than I did for my first pregnancy. It sounds like it shouldn't be much longer. I'd try walking, having sex, stimulating nipples...anything that could get the labor in motion. The menstrual cramps are probably a good sign that you are having braxson hicks contractions. You will definitely know when you are in active labor. It will get closer together 3-5 min apart and longer 45-60 sec long. You could always get your doctor to induce, which would help with scheduling. I don't see why it would be an issue, especially since you are advancing quite well. I'd talk to your dr about that. Labor is labor. It's gonna hurt no matter what, so just prepare yourself.

Good luck and hope this helps.

I am also 39 weeks. This is my third. I want to know the same thing. My OB doesn't check for dilation and effacement unless absolutely needed. However, I am up most of the night with discomfort and anticipation. Every time I stand I fight the urge not to urinate. I feel like I am walking around with a bowling ball falling out of me. I wish you the best and I can sympathize. From what I am reading on other boards it could be any minute for you or up to three weeks away at most since doctors don't usually let you go longer than that.

You really need your doctor to answer this one. He/she can check to see better than anyone else. But it sounds good so far. If you don't have him within the next 2 weeks, definitely check with your doctor so he can check your water level. You can only lose so much. I lost more water than I dialated and had a C-section. They're not that bad if you have a good doctor who knows what they're doing. I had 2 C-sections and both went fine. As with any stomach surgery, it will be annoying, but in 6-8 weeks, you'll be fine. If you do have one, breastfeeding will help, but remember not to lift anything heavier than your baby! Get someone to come and help out sometimes, and sleep when he sleeps! Go walking around or do those excerises for pregant women. Good Luck!

Take my advice - Do not agree to an induction! I'm sure it won't be long before you're baby comes by himself (or herself). I just went through an c-section due to an induced labor and I couldn't regret it more. I was 41 weeks and 3 days and my baby simply wasn't ready to come out. his head was not in the right position. So, if you're dr. acts like you are ready and tries to induce you, DON"T DO IT! I know they say it's not good to past your due date, cuz of other risks, blah, blah, meconium, placenta problems, but there is a greater risk to you if the labor is induced and you have to undergo a c-section. It has been 7 weeks since mine and I am still having sharp abdominal pain. I just don't want another woman to have to go through this if you don't have to. I know you are impatient, but most women end up going into labor naturally within 2 weeks of the due date, so hopefully that will happen for you. Good luck to you and your little one!

It sounds liek you're really close... hang in there!! It'll all be over soon, and you'll be on a new adventure. Get as much sleep as you can, and eat!! You'll need all the energy you can get.
