Youssef,
Avoid spending too much time alone. Isolation is not advantageous for someone in turmoil. DO talk to someone and surround yourself with a strong support system, you know, people who love and care about you. Say your prayers and remember that you are special. A little corny, but true. We are all here for a reason. Best wishes to you. I hope that the positive responses here on Y!Q&A help to put you on the road to spiritual and emotional healing. Stay strong and take care of yourself.

Avoid caffeine and alcohol. They usually tell you to ditch chocolate, too. Do not allow yourself to stay in bed all day--force yourself to get up and shower. Don't spend a lot of time alone in your room--get out in the fresh air.

Cheerful music, talking to people who make you happy, fresh air and exercise during the daytime, eating healthily, talk to your doctor about it. Someone said that keeping two journals (one for good days, and the other for bad days) will be of help--keep reading the one from the good days when you feel down.
You can try over-the-counter supplement, St. John's Wort, it has helped many who are depressed (only if a doctor does not prescirbe any other meds). You can try meditation, yoga, reading self-help books, an uplifting scent of aromatherapy (candles, incense, soaps, etc.)

Feel better :)

In my opinion, things to avoid if you're depressed would be:
street drugs/misuse of narcotics, prescribed or not: alcohol,
and sleeping too much. Some healthy things to do would be eating right, exersising, getting the right amount of sleep, taking
the correctly prescribed medication by a competent physician, meditating/praying, engaging in relaxing recreation, listening to calming music, taking long hot showers or bubble baths and getting alot of fresh air. Also, talking to someone about your problems helps ease the burden.

Well I found that the chanting of the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra is the quickest and easiest way to end all depression, suffering, illusion, anxiety, etc. If you want more info. go to harekrishnatemple.c Read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada Which gives the purpose and meaning to life. That also takes a lot of depression off when one knows who they are in reality and their purpose and why we are here.

surround yourself with positive people. Try to limit your time with people that bring you down, or that make you feel bad about yourself. Think about your good qualities. Focus on baby steps towards goals to make you feel better.

If you are depressed you should talk to your doctor about this. You may need antidepressants.
