I heard it is hillarious, and really good and a "must see", but i'm not sure if its ok for children around 12 or 13 yrs old, because its rated R. Does it have any bad stuff in it? Like what?

It is incredibly funny, one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time, however, it deals with homosexuality, drug use, suicide, and family troubles. I know you're thinking how can it be funny if it deals with all of those things, but trust me it is funny.

Yes, there are references to drug use, foul language, depression, suicide and homosexuality, but at 12 or 13 years old, most kids know what these things are (despite any attempts parents may have had to shelter them) --- IMHO, it's much better to expose them to such topics in a controlled environment (like a family movie night where you can discuss these things openly afterwards) than to let their friends expose them to them.

I would also recommend this movie for kids of that age specifically because right around this time in their lives is when thier focus in seeking approval begins to shift from family to peers. They're going to begin asserting their dependence over the next few years, and they're going to run into a lot of obstacles and challenges as they struggle through finding their way to adulthood.

The reason "Little Miss Sunshine" applies to that is because of the overall message of the movie: no one is perfect, everyone has problems that they have to face and move on from, hopefully stronger and wiser from having had the experience. In addition to that, there's a very overt proclamation that being who you are is always your best bet... even when you're going to stand out for being different, be different -- it's the hallmark of strong character and personality.

It is a dark comedy and not for 12 or 13 year olds (IMHO). The grandfather snorts heroin and does eventually die from it. The uncle has just come out of the hospital after trying to commit suicide. I think older teens is a more appropriate age for this film.

However, for adults, I think this movie is a riot. I'm looking forward to watching it again on DVD. Abigail Breslin's performance (she's the little girl in the movie) is worthy of her Oscar nomination and reason enough to see the film.

Little Miss Sunshine is a great movie, but whose 12 or 13 year old kids are we talking about? If they aren't yours, then NO. This is the kind of movie that only the parent should make a decision about. I'd let my 12 year old son see it but NOT my 12 year old niece. It's that kind of film.

I think that it is okay for children 10 and up. Its not too harsh, it really is much more of a comedy. Unless youre extremely against vulgarity, but even that is minimum. I enjoyed the movie very much and would let 12 and 13 year olds watch it!

I loved it. Its pretty funny. I think it would be ok for a 12 year old, although the humor is more on an adult level. They may not understand it all. The R stuff... grandpa uses drugs and looks at porn mags, the son uses the F word several times in one scene. Thats about it.

It is a really funny movie! It has a few bad things like swearing and some umm porn and the grandpa smokes heroine. They do some bad things but I watched it and I'm 13. If your kids are smart then they won't do anything in this movie.

I agree. It has alot of cursing .
I heard if a movies has the F*** work prononced more than 3 times in a film. It gets on R rating.

I loved it. Its a dry/sarcastic comedy about a dysfunctional family.

I had to watch it a second time to laugh more and I think the best out of the movie is Abagail Breslin. She is so adorable and her dance scene is the best out of the movie.

I was looking forward to seeing it , I watched it over Chrisitmas with friends and we ALL thought it was not living up to the hype.
We were pretty bored throughout it and waited for the hillarity to take place.
It has some swear words, IMO it is hardly worth watching. Depending on your Childrens maturity and your tolerance towards swearing only you can decide if you would like them to see it.

I think its a great film.

The mature topics in it are drugs ( you see the grandad snorting heroin), Suicide not seen but mentioned at the beggining and mild swearing.
