I am doing an assignment on the Challenger disaster and that was one of the questions.

It would alos be nice if you could tell me how fast the shuttle was traveling at that time as well. Thanks.

When the Space Shuttle Challenger lifted off., there were already signs of sparks caused by the friction of the leaking gas from the defective O-ring of the Solid Booster Rockets, as the Shuttle continued its flight, the sparks were more visible and it was too late to abort and land the Shuttle.

I saw this event from a distance of less than 25 feet, even before it actually happened, as it was 11:00 PM in our local time, and the actual time of the disaster was around 1:30 AM the following day.

So what the American government finally determined as the cause of the explosion after several months of retrieval, and studies. I knew it beforehand.
