You don't require protection from cookies, Michael. They're small text files that contain information about sites that you've visited. When you revisit a particular site that you have a cookie for, it holds information about it, and takes less time to load up the page.

If you want to clear the cookies that are held on your computer, you click on Tools (at the top of your browser), select Internet Options, and on the General tab, simply click on 'Delete Cookies'.

Cookies are generally benign. They do no damage or steal personal information. They do as the first answer told you.

There are Cookies you should not allow. These are known as 3rd Party cookies. They technically are not spyware but, they do take information from your computer.

To stop 3rd Party cookies: Go to Tools>Internet Options>Privacy tab>Advanced button>check the box for Automated Cookies>in Third Party Cookies dot Block. click OK>OK.

Deleting cookies only removes them from the folder they are still stored in the index.dat file.

Deleting this while windows is running is very dificult.

There are however programs that can do this for you before windows starts.

Reading this file with special programs will reveal exactly where youve been on the web
