actually no
they adapt and use their one leg to steer themselves in the same way a 3 legged dog will adjust to walking/running on 3 legs.
they have a difficult time getting out of the water sometimes, and have to hop - my guess is unless they are in a non preditor environment (like a park or sanctuary) they wouldn't last too long.

They learn to compensate for having one leg and adjust their little webbed feet to the direction in which they are going.

i am pretty sure they do, they would definitely have a hard time directing themselves to go forward, have you ever tried to tread water using only one leg or one arm? you have to focus really hard not to go in circles

No, I don't think so, but it would be very tired. like if you hurt your leg, you would still walk straight
