Ok, i have been reading other people questions about black history month and I have come to the conclusion that there are still racist people out there. Why are people so against celebrating black history month. It is a part of American culture. blacks have made many contributions to history, so if the history books won't recognize our accomplishments then we have to somehow. I think White people are insecure they wish they could be a minority. They are just mad that BET is taking over MTV, and that minorities are getting into their schools and when they try to get into HBCU schools they can't. Somebody let me know why yall are so angry about BLACK HISTORY MONTH?

Some people are offended if they aren't included in a celebration... sounds pretty selfish to me

If white people are so upset about Black History Month, then how about teaching black history along with white history in the school curriculum through out the year. If it is truly "equal", then teach our history right beside that of white people and there will be no need for black history month because our history will be taught 12 months out of the year instead of 1. All races have made great contributions to our society. However we live in a society where we as blacks are a minority so we have the odds stacked against us in a sense so when we do accomplish a great feat, it is focused on more because there are many more whites in America than blacks especially with higher positions. As for Vonhugens, you sound really racist with your comments. And please do not think that there are not many whites out robbing, killing, and maybe even worst. However the media will constantly show the black acts of violence and down play the ones committed by whites. Who runs the media. White people. So we will see what they want us to see. But lets not forget about the crimes that whites commit., Every race has good and bad people.

Oh, good grief! Lighten up, will yeah! You are one of many people on here that forget that not every person is the same even within each race. I'm white and I'm not against Black History Month and you're saying I am?! Generalizing is a big mistake, because every white person is different and will believe differently. You must have come across a few white people who were very verbal in their dislike of Black History Month. Don't group all white people together in with them.

Personally I think every day should be a celebration of every race. Not just one.

Yes, there are still rabidly racist people, not just in the United States, but world-wide. They're frightened, ignorant, hate-filled people, who fear that their way of life will somehow be changed for the worse if their race isn't considered "superior" (by whom, I still don't know). Others get resentful if they feel they are being "forced" to participate in "making up" for the misdeeds of the past of their race.

I'm white and think it's a great idea to celebrate as many different nationalities, races, and ethnic groups as we can-how can celebrating be bad for heavens sake? The more we learn about and value our differences, the less likely we are to think there is only one way to do things. Heaven forbid we actually learn something along the way!

It should be named "Black Mythology Month" because that's exactly what it is; myths piled high as a mountain top!
I don't need to hear a word of this hoopla about "Black History". All I need to do is stand on a street corner and I see all the "Black History" I care to ever see, and then some. Herds or simians carousing around like chickens with their heads cut off, panhandling, stealing, stealing hubcaps, begging, wiping out the race card, harrassing everyone in sight.
Why would anyone be "proud" of that? Only a complete nincompoop would give it the time of day.
It's total insanity on part of the government to ever have endorsed such a mutated cause.

I'm not - we don't have black history month - we learn black history alongside white history, but then I'm in the UK and I get the feeling we care less (most of us) about some supposed "difference" is it true that in America mixed race couples are still supposed to be shocking?

Weird.

Actually I like BET a lot more than MTv.
The only thing that I get angry about, is being accused of being racist or against black people simply because I'm white, rather than because of my actions. Obviously white people don't have a monopoly on racism.

I'm not... There are alot of great black people in our nation. We have a rich history of African Americans to speak about. Look at all the great actors and actresses. Denzell Washington, Eddie Murphy, Woopie Goldberg. They make all of us black and white cry and laugh. Excellent acting skills and all great human beings. I am totally white. Nothing black about me. I have several black friends that I work with and come from a small town. I happen to think that black people make a huge contribution to our society. Check out these great books... They are great reads... They are also brand new at about half price! And it looks like the seller has great prices on them.

Maybe they are ashamed of that history Like how the african's came to be in America ( stolen from Africa) Sometimes when I see a movie, such as Rabbit proof fence or The tracker it makes me feel ashamed to be white, even though my ancestors where convicts and they where taken from their native home & taken to somewhere that they never wanted to be, But that is just my opinon.

Actually I have heard more "blacks" complain about "Black History Month" than "whites" (especially since it is the shortest month of the year).

It's all just a grandfaloon anyway.

Being proud of your heritage is great. Being proud of your beautiful skin color is great. Encouraging people generation after generation call minor exterior appearances having something in common is "racist" and encourages "racism".

There is only one human race. The concept of different races of man was disproved back in the '50s and needs to die.

There may be several popular breeds...
