Last night I swear I thought it or they were going to come through the bathroom wall. Lately there's an unbelievable sewer smell coming up from under the house. What is that loud grunting sound about? I think they may be tearing up pipes or something under there. The smell is real bad. I heard loud scratching right under the tub and walls with that scary sound. What can I do? I don't believe in trapping and killing animals.

you can trap them without killing them, get a live trap, bait it with some raw chicken parts, and when you catch one of the little buggers take him for a ride and drop him off. You can try to call animal control, they may be able to help.

As far as the smell, it is possible they broke a pipe if they did, call a plumber. Chances are he won't be so leery about killing them before he crawls under there. After you get them all out from under there, block off any openings to keep them from coming back again.

I'd get under my house and look around. I'd bet good money you have a sewer leak of some type. Mr. Possum is going under to eat at night. Does your home have an open foundation? How is the possum getting under the house? Fix the sewer problem and close the foundation uptight. I don't want any critters of any kind under my home.

Put up a decorative barrier to the underside of your house.
Use a layer of chicken wire first, then cover it over with something pretty.

Live traps are very humane, the SPCA will rent you a trap, but then you have a pissed of critter to deal with. Call a "critter ridder" company. Look in the phone book. It's cheap and you don't have to worry about anything.

Mothballs, but be careful, the vapors can be over whelming, don't use the whole box unless its a really big house. Try throwing a couple of handfuls under the house, that should do the job

cat or dog will solve that problem, and your local shelter will be happy to help you find a great possum hunter...just to chase them off of course.
