I have 6 months old baby daughter, and I would like to know whether you use boiled tap water (or filtered tap water) or bottled water for your baby. So far, my husband and I have decided to use bottled water for our baby. Thanks!

whether you boil or filter it, you should use the tap water because it contains fluoride which the baby need for strong and healthy bones and teeth! Or you could get the baby water that they sell at grocers and walmart. It contains fluoride already, while most other bottled waters don't.

I asked my doctor when our daughter was about 3 months old and I wanted to stop having to sterilize everything if we should instead use bottled water. He said absolutely not. If you're on a municipal water supply (not well water), then tap water is actually a lot safer than bottled water. Bottled water has very little regulations involved and has actually had more problems and contaminations over the years than tap water has. Not to mention the hassle and waste of bottled water. If you're still concerned about the safety of tap water then boil it at a hard boil for 5 minutes, but unboiled tap water is still better than bottled.

Absolutely don't use bottled water. All it is is Tap water and they filter out all of the minerals other good stuff they put in the tap water. Bottled isn't near as good for you as tap water is. I don't even boil the tap water. They used to say there was something in the water that is bad for babies but we've come so far and put special things in our water now so it's perfectly fine for your baby. Plus it's WAY cheaper than buying bottled water.

You should be using tap water because of the fluoride in it. I had asked my pediatrician about it and he said to use tap water. And if you use bottled water the baby will need a fluoride supplement. If you boil the tap water it will take all the fluoride and healthy minerals out of it. Filtered tap water, is a good way to go if your worried about straight tap water. I always used just tap water for my son. another thing is if you get your water from a well rather that city water your baby will need a fluoride supplement.

Bottled water isn't sterilized water... just so you know. At 6 months it probably doesn't matter which type of water you use... they're moving around on the floor, and are more likely to pick something up there... not to mention their little bodies can handle much more.

I still use boiled water... my baby is 9 months. The only reason I use it is out of habit... and because it tastes better than straight tap water.

I think it depends on the water quality in your area.. Do you like the taste of the tapwater? Chances are if it tastes decent,it is going to be OK..
At this age 6 months, there is not really much to worry about and it is completly OK to use tapwater.
I understand your concern,I used Bottled Water till my first born was 1 years old..
As far as boiled tap water? Too much work...with a 6 month old you already have limited time as it is...;)

I use to boil tap water but then I asked my babies doctor and he said that boiling it was wasting my time baby water needed to be boiled so the best thing was regular tap water and the fluoride should help there teeth come out healthy. just ask the doctor and go by what he says.

You do know that there are no standards for bottled water? They could scoop out water from the toliet and that'd be fine.

So to be on the safe side, filtered tap water all the way. More nurtients too.

I could be wrong here, but do babies really even NEED water? And by that, I mean, shouldn't they be primarily drinking milk? [obviously, yes they need fluids].
I was under the impression that a common dietary mistake made with babies is to give them foods that are NOT fatty enough.
If you give them juice/water, they're not getting as much nutrition as they otherwise would from drinking milk instead.
[then again, I'm a college student who hasn't been around a baby in years, I just remember hearing that somewhere].
Anyways, no matter what, don't worry too much. I'm sure you are both wonderful, wonderful parents! Think of how many idiotic ppl out there have managed to raise otherwise healthy children! If they can manage to do it, I'm sure you can, too.

Our doc said we could use straight tap water. But I do not care for the taste of our tap water (city water) so I bought gallons of drinking water for her. She is on ready to feed formula, so it did not make a difference there. But I use tap water to mix things (like dilute her juice) but when she is drinking plain water, I either use bottled or the Brita water pitcher.
